Why Failure Is Good for Success

The sweetest victory is the one that’s most difficult. The one that requires you to reach down deep inside, to fight with everything you’ve got, to be willing to leave everything out there on the battlefield—without knowing, until that do-or-die moment, if your heroic effort will be enough.
Society doesn’t reward defeat, and you won’t find many failures documented in history books. The exceptions are those failures that become steppingstones to later success. Such is the case with Thomas Edison, whose most memorable invention was the light bulb, which purportedly took him 1,000 tries before he developed a successful prototype. “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” a reporter asked. “I didn’t fail 1,000 times,” Edison responded. “The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
Unlike Edison, many of us avoid the prospect of failure. In fact, we’re so focused on not failing that we don’t aim for success, settling instead for a life of mediocrity. When we do make missteps, we gloss over them, selectively editing out the miscalculations or mistakes in our life’s résumé.
“Failure is not an option,” NASA flight controller Jerry C. Bostick reportedly stated during the mission to bring the damaged Apollo 13 back to Earth, and that phrase has been etched into the collective memory ever since.
To many in our success-driven society, failure isn’t just considered a non-option—it’s deemed a deficiency, says Kathryn Schulz, author of Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error. “Of all the things we are wrong about, this idea of error might well top the list,” Schulz says. “It is our meta-mistake: We are wrong about what it means to be wrong. Far from being a sign of intellectual inferiority, the capacity to err is crucial to human cognition.”
Life’s Greatest Teacher
When we take a closer look at the great thinkers throughout history, a willingness to take on failure isn’t a new or extraordinary thought at all. From the likes of Augustine, Darwin and Freud to the business mavericks and sports legends of today, failure is as powerful a tool as any in reaching great success.
“Failure and defeat are life’s greatest teachers [but] sadly, most people, and particularly conservative corporate cultures, don’t want to go there,” says Ralph Heath, managing partner of Synergy Leadership Group and author of Celebrating Failure: The Power of Taking Risks, Making Mistakes and Thinking Big. “Instead they choose to play it safe, to fly below the radar, repeating the same safe choices over and over again. They operate under the belief that if they make no waves, they attract no attention; no one will yell at them for failing because they generally never attempt anything great at which they could possibly fail (or succeed).”
However, in today’s post-recession economy, some employers are no longer shying away from failure—they’re embracing it. According to a recent article in BusinessWeek, many companies are deliberately seeking out those with track records reflecting both failure and success, believing that those who have been in the trenches, survived battle and come out on the other side have irreplaceable experience and perseverance. They’re veterans of failure.
The prevailing school of thought in progressive companies—such as Intuit, General Electric, Corning and Virgin Atlantic—is that great success depends on great risk, and failure is simply a common byproduct. Executives of such organizations don’t mourn their mistakes but instead parlay them into future gains.
“The quickest road to success is to possess an attitude toward failure of ‘no fear,’ ” says Heath. “To do their work well, to be successful and to keep their companies competitive, leaders and workers on the front lines need to stick their necks out a mile every day. They have to deliver risky, edgy, breakthrough ideas, plans, presentations, advice, technology, products, leadership, bills and more. And they have to deliver all this fearlessly—without any fear whatsoever of failure, rejection or punishment.”
Reaching Your Potential
The same holds true for personal quests, whether in overcoming some specific challenge or reaching your full potential in all aspects of life. To achieve your personal best, to reach unparalleled heights, to make the impossible possible, you can’t fear failure, you must think big, and you have to push yourself.
When we think of people with this mindset, we imagine the daredevils, the pioneers, the inventors, the explorers: They embrace failure as a necessary step to unprecedented success.
But you don’t have to walk a tightrope, climb Mount Everest or cure polio to employ this mindset in your own life. When the rewards of success are great, embracing possible failure is key to taking on a variety of challenges, whether you’re reinventing yourself by starting a new business or allowing yourself to trust another person to build a deeper relationship.
“To achieve any worthy goal, you must take risks,” says writer and speaker John C. Maxwell. In his book Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones for Success, he points to the example of legendary aviator Amelia Earhart, who set several records and achieved many firsts in her lifetime, including being the first female pilot to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean. Although her final flight proved fateful, Maxwell believes she knew the risk—and that the potential reward was worth it. “[Earhart’s] advice when it came to risk was simple and direct: ‘Decide whether or not the goal is worth the risks involved. If it is, stop worrying.’ ”
Of course, the risks you take should be calculated; you shouldn’t fly blindly into the night and simply hope for the best. Achieving the goal or at least waging a heroic effort requires preparation, practice and some awareness of your skills and talents.
Easing Into a Fearless Mindset
“One of the biggest secrets to success is operating inside your strength zone but outside of your comfort zone,” Heath says. Although you might fail incredibly, you might succeed incredibly—and that’s why incredible risk and courage are requisite. Either way, you’ll learn more than ever about your strengths, talents and resolve, and you’ll strengthen your will for the next challenge.
If this sounds like dangerous territory, it can be. But there are ways to ease into this fearless mindset. The first is to consciously maintain a positive attitude so that, no matter what you encounter, you’ll be able to see the lessons of the experience and continue to push forward.
“It’s true that not everyone is positive by nature,” says Maxwell, who cites his father as someone who would describe himself as a negative person by nature. “Here’s how my dad changed his attitude. First he made a choice: He continually chooses to have a positive attitude. Second, he’s continually reading and listening to materials that bolster that attitude. For example, he’s read The Power of Positive Thinking many times. I didn’t get it at first, so once I asked him why. His response: ‘Son, I need to keep filling the tank so I can stay positive.’ ”
Heath recommends studying the failures and subsequent reactions of successful people and, within a business context, repeating such histories for others. “Reward them and applaud their efforts in front of the entire organization so everyone understands it is OK to fail. So employees say to themselves, ‘I see that Bill, the vice president of widgets, who the president adores, failed, and he is not only back at work, but he is driving a hot new sports car. I can fail and come to work the next day. Bill is proof of it.’ ”
Finally, Heath stays motivated by the thought that, “if I become complacent and don’t take risks, someone will notice what I am doing and improve upon my efforts over time, and put me out of work. You’ve got to keep finding better ways to run your life, or someone will take what you’ve accomplished, improve upon it, and be very pleased with the results. Keep moving forward or die.”

RAIN $HOWER$

A million fresh drops,
dancing on my face,
On tune of a singer’s pop,
they hurled on my grace.
Life seeming listless,
and many insolent overcomes,
Tipping on me to bless,
my future that makes one.
A scene quite romantic,
loving the nature’s booms,
The thrift making dogmatic,
and little flowers give loom.
Those fresh drops I never knew,
were poured down from sky,
Marking presence in form of dew,
they knowingly passed by.
Showering in my garden,
These drops made me wet,
For blushing they asked pardon,

And for the trillions of them I bet.

BREAKING BONDS

It is difficult for all,
To survive in unhealthy bond,
Many give it a fall,
But only handful are strong.
And yes for a girl,
It is most difficult to,
Rising high up in the hurl,
A greatest task to do.
To cross those oceans,
Of the toughest challenges,
And to ask a question,
Why our mindset never changes?
Today’s girls breaking free,
From those lumpy bonds,
Now girls too agree,
When they are astound.
It goes the need of the hour,
Girls to edifice their strength,
Showing their undeniable power,
To the world in serenity.

GIRLS BREAKING FREE

A girl ties a knot ,
With the power of thought,
Creating her own name ,
And managing other’s blame.
Transcending her new wings ,
She got to do many things,
But none let her survive ,
For justice she’s being deprived.
A girl has got the real power,
 By which she cover,
The fear of her life,
And those contemporary thrive.
Breaking those unhealthy bonds,
She creates a valuable pond,
Rising high into the sky,
Influencing all her close by’s.
Girls have got the real strength,
To putrefy all the filth,
The filth in societal minds,
And bonds which make them blind.
Girls break out from here,
From the bonds which they fear,
Accepting the arduous ventures,
With her intact sinew’s pleasure.

DON’T QUIT (Insp)

When things go wrong , as they sometimes will ,
When the road you are trudging seems up all hill
When funds are low and debts are high ,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit ,
Rest if you must but don’t you quit
Life is a queer with its twists and turns ,
As everyone of us sometimes learn
And many a failure turned about ,
When he might have won, you had stuck it out
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow ,
You may succeed with another blow
Often the goal is nearer than ,
It seems to a faint and faltering man
Often the struggler has given up ,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup
And he learned too late when the night slipped down ,
How close he was to the golden crown
Success is failure turned inside out ,
The sliver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are ,
It may be near when it seems so far
So stick to the fight when you are hardest hit ,
It’s when the things seem worst you musn’t quit.

Those Eyes

I  am the one ,
 in search of those eyes
Which forensically view ,
a heart of endless sighs,
Neglecting the outward painted faces,
Ignoring the venom of life’s chases
Who just appreciate the eternal brilliance
Which I term as , a child’s innocence
Eyes which help the striving sylph
To reach scudding high, upto the cliff
Eyes which lave away my fear,
By giving a gesture of “yes I am here”
Just one perfectionist, invisible impalpable
Who prevent the resurrection of the evil?
I realised these eyes belong to him,
My faith is his home and he resides in.

The Magic

You may not know,
Where the magic is,
Miraculous soft snow,
 Of the southern hours whiz.
The magic is to cognize,
 And experience yourself,
Nevertheless to cowardice,
It does surprises to many an elf.
The magic is within you,
 Just need to discover,
It makes you one among the few,
And sometimes is needed to recover.
The filament of life,
Manages to burn,
The world's longest drive,
That it would turn.
Spell out the magic,
From your heart,
Unearthed the tragic,
And list it apart.
Magical is the drift,
Which binds you in faith,
The immaculate thrift,
Wisdoming your inner trait.

Fearful World

My heart throbs like a diamond star ,
sitting under dim night sky
Power like the third world war ,
but no time to question why
Why do I think it every hour ,
sitting in my new Mercedes car
Lonely gazing the stars at night ,
 thinking why the nations fight
Don’t know why the leaders cheat ,
for money they can easily beat
Yelling like hungry dogs of the street ,
making us lay on their feet
Don’t know why corruption is there ,
from leaders to public everywhere
Common man just stand and stares ,
for him in this world no one cares
Terrorism is there in world ,
Crossing the limit of every hurl
But no one knows the reason why ,
why the minds of this world die
Everything is changing its phase day by day ,
even the nature cannot tolerate
But the common man has to fight ,
after all he has to survive
Every time this question arise ,
why the common man cries
No one has the answer which is exactly right
That’s why my heart throbs at the cause of my life

Attitude

Don’t  bother about things,
Naturally happening to me,
Never driving selfish rings,
When i know what I want to be.
My playness and my charm,
Nothing got to do with my image,
I always be sweet and warm,
While glamouring my lineage.
Those fits don’t happen to,
Enjoy my incredulous life,
As they seem to be those few,
Who want me to lose my pride.
It’s my power I know,
Gets wasted indeed,
When i abruptly throw,
All my good friends in need.
Though you laugh on my weakness,
A promise you won’t win,
As a dour news I’ll leak,
And will naked down your sin.
If you’re a fighter then I am too,
More than what you think,
Don’t challenge me among the few,
Or I’ll bet your fight will sink.
Don’t worry that’s my attitude,
As I am none who can be sold,
Beware you that’s my solitude,

As i am daring and bold.

Robotic Life

We peer into the most suitable one,
and luxury that we have,
All the world who knows the shun,
 but want and always gave.
Our life turn into a robot,
 though we do never understand,
Following the same routine,
 we never change our trend.
From morning to evening,
and evening to noon,
We wait for night’s wing,
and then as usual stay to our tune.
A boring life we make,
and monotonous it goes,
We become listless for the wake,
and anonymously it throws.
To change our mechanical thoughts,
we need to change ourselves,
Our fashion, trend, haves and have-nots,
 and our mind that dwells.
Revert the tune you are living in,
exchange the thoughts and ways,
Develop your mindsets in, a noble man say.

I am ME

Let it may fall
No time to care
What other’s call
No time to spare
Edificing new bonds
The best indeed
A conserving pond
Of honest feeds
Layers of masks
Wear as much you can
My tears won’t ask
Of how you ran
I will regain
My lost strength
Though suffering pain
That all i meant
Virtuous you be
Loyal the one
Difference you’ll see
I created some
Water may drop
Its bliss from the sky
But i don’t crop
Any filth i say
My words begin
With the truth of life
What all can win
Is a spurious thrive
My tears are
My biggest strength
You be so sour’
I’ve no time to pretend

Friends

Friends may be there….may not be there ,
But their love remains with us forever
Whenever we are in need of them ,
our love pulls them to us ,
A real friend is the one…who walks with you...
When the whole world walks away from you ,
A friend never counts you …in front of any evens and odds….
He has no complains with you but these friends are likely very few ,
Your friend never puts you in any wrongs…
A friend rather plays a role in building you a good human ,
There is so much to say about them….
but words are not enough…,
Friends give you strength when you lose all hope…
They give you hand when you are about to fall…. ,
A friend take all pain…for you to learn and gain….
No adjectives can define a friend…but then also some say it has an Fri[end]…
Never leave your friends because….both of you will suffer the loss…
You will suffer the loss of friend…and your friend will suffer the loss of HEART…..
Mistakes can be done and improved many times….because humans only do mistakes….
But once your friend HEART is broken….it cannot be REPAIRED….
Never break your friend’s trust…as they blindly TRUST on you….
Be to their expectations…..as they do not expect much from you…
But never leave them alone…..as they can be your future guides…
Always remember do not forget…that they are your beautiful life

Stop being a SLAVE

Being a slave,
the world knows that,
Making me to behave,
 like a labour swot.
Ignoring my wishes,
and my fresh burns too,
Forcing me to switch,
and giving bad works to do.
Tolerating those inches,
I had done,
Climbing those trenches,
 I wondered it fun.
Nevertheless screeching,
swimming the skinny lake,
Now I am bleaching,
the past person awake.
The mindless new philosophies,
 had considered me insane,
Proving their abnormalities,
now are all in vain.
Stop being a slave of yourself,
which can’t gain you anything,
Start a new life with own self,
 by spreading out new wings.

CHANGE WE NEED

The world surrounds the in’s and out’s,
the truth in the authentic locus,
Millions of people move the scouts,
in order to increase their focus.
The corrupt world,
 induces to follow the tradition,
Creaming the beneficial fold,
making the submerging the verification.
Contempting the placid,
that none other would do,
Blemishing the bracket,
 elaborating the déjà vu.
Alteration is necessary,
and a proximate change we need,
Admitting the weary,
was a very doltish deed.
Trepidation should be removed,
 the coercion it had built,
Destroying its aged bedrock,
and the selfish guilt.
Resuming the rejuvenate change,
the mutate we devoir,
Establishing the new welkin,
and the heavens we desire.
Commemorating the new holy,
 we partage our obligations,
Rectifying our contemporary folly,
by deciphering our bygone praxis.
